Special children are near and dear to my heart. In 2007, I became a licensed practitioner or Yoga for the Special Child®, after studying with program founder Sonia Sumar. Having a special needs child of my own, I see yoga as more than a therapy; it is a life skill. This therapy is personalized and takes place in the privacy of your home, or mine.

Yoga is a practice focusing on body, mind, and spirit. It is a practice because it is not a task to master or a contest to win. Yoga provides tools to get in touch with our physical and emotional needs.

I dedicated my energies to creating wellness and healing in the lives of all I have the privilege to touch. I invite you to get in touch with me to discuss your child’s specific needs.

Why do children benefit from yoga?

Yoga is a noncompetitive activity that helps children with special needs achieve both physical and emotional balance by developing strong and flexible bodies. Yoga teaches body self-awareness while strengthening motor skills and coordination. Self-esteem and confidence are boosted and concentration is enhanced. Through breathing exercises, postures and restorative relaxation, yoga increases mental clarity, emotional stability and a greater sense of well-being. All participants can experience the benefits of yoga and restorative relaxation. Karen specializes in working with children with Autism Spectrum disorders.
